The city of Biscarrosse is the administrative and commercial center of the region, and it is situated just a few minutes away from other areas that make up the town: such as the lakes and the beach. I thought it was a nice city, very lively. In season, you can take your kids to enjoy the shows that are organized especially for them in the main square. It also offers the opportunity to visit the many shops in the city, and, in particular, go for a walk through the pedestrian zone. Here you can enjoy outdoor cafes and restaurants in peace. Do not miss the museum of traditions and seaplanes, which, as its name suggests, informs you about the history of seaplanes, and there are life-size models on display. It is one of the most famous destinations of the city that will not disappoint you!
Dufau Square is the central square of Biscarrosse. It is the perfect place to go for a walk during the day but also at night as well: a visit to the night market is a must. I highly recommend this place, mainly because of the fact that it offers so much that will entertain both the young and old. In the passages between the stores around (surf shops etc.), you can taste sweets and cakes at the many stalls in the square. There is also the Tourist Office, where they will give you valuable tips to help you discover the three different areas of the city: the city of Biscarrosse, Biscarrosse beach and lakes of Biscarrosse. In the commercial artery, Beach Avenue (linking the square with the beach of Dufau) may satisfy your shopping spree. You will not be disappointed. Nor your children (there are many candy shops!)
Port Maguide is a wonderful place to stroll with friends or family. There is a turquoise lake with water that has nothing to envy to the tropical beaches. When we arrived the temperature was 25 degrees. The magnificent sandy beaches are surrounded by pine trees that let you enjoy shaded areas, ideal for a picnic or for sun protection when it's hot. In Port Maguide you can also rent skates for a walk by the lake, or enjoy the many bars and restaurants that are on the edge of it. It is a place that totally won me over.
The seaplane museum in Biscarrose is a 5 minute drive from the beach. This visit is required: Biscarrose city was chosen in 1930 by Pierre Georges Latécoère as the place of assembly and testing of models of France's largest seaplane. The museum has allowed me to discover a world completely unknown before, the aeronautics. It offers the possibility to know the most beautiful pages of French aviation through its projections, models, mechanical parts and seaplanes Stand in a truly extraordinary showroom. A place to discover fully.
The main beach of Biscarrosse is just moments away from Dufau Square, in Biscarrosse. It is a sandy beach, very nice and really spacious. After watching the sunset on the wall of the dune that runs along the beach, you can enjoy a refreshment in the many restaurants and bars in the vicinity of the beach. I recommend climbing to the top of the green dune next to the beach. They can not be missed! You must admire the view, it is truly wonderful. Green Dune, also called "Gardens of the dune" is a sand dune which has, fortunately, been relocated to a more accessible green space ;). From the central square of Biscarrosse (Dufau Square) you can get there in just a few minutes, it is about 200 meters away. The night market held daily in the summer in the square is not to be missed!
Beach Avenue is the street that separates the square from the beach of Dufau (the avenue is about 200 meters long, and it takes you near to the center of Biscarrosse Beach, with the beach and green dune). Beach Avenue is a busy street which is full of clothing and accessories stores (where you have the opportunity to buy a pair of espadrilles at a really decent price, or alternatively some beach accessories ;)). There are also bakeries (with waffles, ice cream, etc.), and some bars and restaurants. And everything is within just a few meters of the beach and the Green Dune. It is a place that will appeal to both the young and old! It is a dynamic and pleasant street not to be missed if you want to go to the beach from Dufau square.
The Biscarrosse beach night market totally captivated me. Firstly because it is very different from traditional daytime markets: the colours are revived, but the Biscarrosse market is also a nice place because there is a lot of street entertainment, with groups music, etc, distributed on both sides of Dufau square which is ideal for a family walk through a market. Finally, the many stalls really delighted me! The night market is a really cool option after a day at the beach :) The market is held every day from July 1 to August 31, from 8 pm to midnight in Dufau square. The night market is cozy and suitable for both large and small groups, due to its many stalls, its entertainment and amusement rides, ...
After visiting Port Maguide, we stumbled upon a wonderful golf course, just a few miles away. The golf course is located in the middle of a forest, on the road to Biscarrosse lakes. It has 27 holes hidden in the forest, in a perfect setting surrounded by trees between the lakes and the ocean. It offers two routes: the Forest-Ocean of 18 holes and the Lake which is 9 holes shorter. The two courses will delight golfers whatever their level, both beginners and experts. The on-site restaurant "Le Parcours Gourmand" is reasonably priced and offers a unique setting (the restaurant is completely surrounded by windows to enjoy a breathtaking view of the park). I do not play golf, but due to the beautiful surroundings, I gave it a try!
For bike lovers, Biscarrosse is the best city to enjoy cycling for both beginners and the more experienced. The city is divided into 3 areas and they're all quickly accessible thanks to its bike lanes and trails. they're all well marked, allowing you to explore the various well know areas of the city safely and enjoying natural surroundings. Don't worry if you haven't got the right equipment, in Biscarrosse beach and in the city, there're several bike rental centers where you can get the things you need at a good prices. An opportunity to enjoy a quiet walk in a natural environment that, compared to cities full of cars, it's more beautiful for cyclists.
