Lacanau Océan is a coastal village in the Aquitaine region, south of Bordeaux. It's a normal town, and the Lacanau Océan is the beach and leisure part of town. You'll find plenty of campsites to stay, where you can either put up your tent or rent a house with friends (6 or 8 people), prices are quite low, especially if you go out of season. You can walk around with your bike, there are bike lanes through the pine forest that almost reach the Basque country along the coast. It's a surfer's paradise, the waves are perfect, and there are several festivals and windsurfing throughout the summer in Lacanau and the surrounding towns. When it comes to food, there is no better location, we are close to Bordeaux, which provides us with the best wines, and is a region of fine foods, cheeses, duck, meat, all delicious. Prices are quite low compared to the Mediterranean coast of France.
Lacanau Beach is in the department Gironde, about 60 kilometers from Bordeaux, following the vineyards through to the Atlantic coast. On the beach, there are big waves and it is quite windy, so it is perfect for those who like surfing, kite surfing, and other water sports. In summer the región holds plenty of surf events, festivals and competitions, in Biarritz or Hossegor to name a few. Lacanau is also close-by should you want to go. A Word of warning, this is not the blue coast or the Mediterranean coast, the water is colder, the current is stronger and it is also cooler in the south east of France. Traditional local food is very nice, duck dishes with delicious Bordeaux wine. If you want to travel a Little further inland, you can visit the "Chateaux" where wine is produced and buy very cheap bottles. The Aquitaine region greatly promotes cycling. Cycle lanes stretch over almost the entire coastline, a large pine forest with sandy soil, and you can walk along the water without worrying about highway traffic.
