Lovely natural park on the border of Germany and the Czech Republic. The park is well signposted, allowing plenty of trekking, with different levels of difficulty. The park is divided into 2. - The well-known as the bastion (Bastei), an interesting rock formation connected by a bridge, with lovely panoramic views of river Elbe. - The area to the east of the village of Bad Schandau, less spectacular but much bigger. Very close to the city park Königstein we have the most interesting strongholds in the zone (Festung Königstein). It can also be interesting to travel to Großsedlitz City, which has a great Baroque garden (Barockgarten Großsedlitz) that you can stroll around.
The Bastion is the most well-known place in a natural park of the Saxon Switzerland, located about 30 minutes from Dresden, if you're heading east. Besides the typical mountain treks of any (well signposted in both distance and difficulty), this area is a curious rock formation that rises about 200 hundred yards from the river Elbe. It's also where a bridge was built in 1851, and there are various walkways that connect these rocks. This place offers a stunning panoramic view of the entire park and the river Elbe. Go!
