Castles in Petrer
Castle of Petrer
The Petrere castle is pretty and well cared for. It watches over the town from above. From there the city of Elda and the town of Petrer, separated just by a street, seem miniature. You can observe the city’s enclave along the interesting Vinalopo river, which at these heights, is too small and narrow to see. To get here, you have to imperiously cross Petrer’s old quarters. Be as careful as possible, as the path is steep and tiring. I’d recommend that you go slowly and calmly along the path. Enjoy it and… you’ll eventually arrive at the castle.
Of Cultural Interest in Petrer
This village of Roman foundation, which reached significance in Arab times, has some structures of great importance, such as its ancient castle, in perfect condition. Just outside, on the promenade of Puça, are the remains of an aqueduct of the XVI century and, on a mound, the chapels which give a good view of the area. La Sierra del Cid
In Petrer, which is an extensive municipality, there are some paths in the Sierra del Cid (named after the adventures this famous mercenary went on) that that are worth doing. The easiest way is to start in the recreational areas in Caprala or in el Rincón or the L'Avaiol hostel. There are many different hiking trails starting there that allow you to delve into this beautiful landscape.

Arenal De´l'Almorxo
It's like going to the beach without the water. They say that during the Little Ice Age (XV-XVII) Vinalopó Valley (Villena, Sax ...) was created after the physical disintegration of rocks produced by changes in temperature and winds carried the sand to this place, amazing!! What you see is a small Arenal of 300 meters like any dune beach. But of course, there is also rosemary, thyme, almonds, olives and other Mediterranean delicacies growing there. It is best to visit early in the morning and then have lunch or eat in the recreation area of Caprala Campemento which is open weekends. Elda City Council organizes trips to discover the place for an hour every Sunday. Departure is at 11.00 with no reservation required. You have to see it, enjoy it and protect it ... Recommended.

This is a beautiful place, next to a stream and waterfall. The vegetation of the area is very rich and it is a wonderful place to enjoy a picnic or camping. One of the most beautiful places in Alicante.

Administration Home Xorret de Cati
Good area where you can go hiking, climbing and do other mountain sports. You can stay at the hotel that belongs to the Council of Alicante, although I prefer to rent a house in the area. There is also a nice campsite. Close to the hotel you can find the crumbling old farm house mansion that you can see in the photo. It's a good place to take an evening stroll and escape the summer sun.
