This is a clean and calm beach with plenty of light-colored sand. It’s an ideal place to go on family vacations and there are lots of things to see within a few kilometers: Sitges, Tarragona, Calafell, and Costa Dorada…it’s really worth a trip and I’ll definitely be back!
At kilometer 141 of the C-31, there’s a reconstruction of an Iberian settlement dating back all the way to the Iron Age. The most interesting part was that the reconstruction was made with actual artifacts and ruins found and excavated in 1983. Now, the village is almost perfectly rebuilt and extensive work has been done to decorate the interiors as they appeared over 2500 years ago.
To make the visit more interactive, you can also dress like the original Iberians and take part in some of their daily tasks. It’s like being part of a museum.
Castell de la Santa Creu de Calafell, located in the town of Calafell, is a beautiful and peaceful place, which is the perfect place if you want peace and rest. You feel far removed from the bustle of the beach, and you can recharge your batteries after a hard year of work.
The entire small town of Calafell revolves around this square where the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) is located. It’s called the Plaza de la Constitución y Plaza del Ayuntamiento and is where you can begin your ascent towards the castle which sits perched atop a hill, overlooking the city. The square has various hotels and restaurants that are perfect for a relaxing drink.
Taking a landscape picture of the town of Calafell, and not the beach we all know, the town is quiet and it is wonderful to visit and wander through its streets. This particular facade inspired me take a picture and to use a very specific type of editing, using its extreme whiteness.
This is a very small and well-preserved building that you can reach via a steep stone path. There are anthropomorphic tombs, murals, frescos, etchings, an altar, and a crypt in the interior. It was once a place of refuge for the local population during attacks from pirates.
Since this defensive fortress was built in the highest point of the city, it also has some amazing panoramic views of the area. The best views are found at the very top of the building.
In Segur de Calafell port you can see this schooner and enjoy a walk by the sea, with a sea breeze and stunning views of the coast of Calafell. The port usually has many activities throughout the year such as fishing contests, Harleys or Ferraris shows, sardines and hiking. Below is Calafell beach where you you can take a bath in clean water and enjoy a very well maintained beach.
A pub in Calafell where time stands still. Located in Carrer Vilamar for about 85 years. You can enjoy a spectacular cocktails and the menu captivates you. Also on the same street there are a myriad of shops where you can buy all your souvenirs.
The “NordicWalking” walks around El Vendrell and Calafell all begin in the Playa de El Vendrell.
These paths through the hills and forests have various levels of difficulty ranging from novice (where they teach you how to properly use the walking poles) to more difficult ones for those with more experience. I’d never done it before and I thought the rhythm of walking along with the spectacular views of the Mediterranean were a good mix. It’s a perfect activity if you’re looking to get a bit of exercise while you enjoy the mountains and countryside.
Calle Vilamar is a street in Calafell that is parallel to the coastline where you will find everything, clothing stores, gift shops, bars and restaurants of all types and prices. I recommend the restaurant La Cartuja. Also you can find music and some other activities organized by the city council.
