I came to this place because they said the internet was good, which is unusual in Cambodia, and I found the headquarters of a wonderful NGO that helps orphaned children by giving them education of internet technology. It also functions as a guesthouse and business centre for meetings. Everything collected goes to help children. It's an affordable choice in accommodation in the capital of Cambodia, with beds starting at €3. Like almost everywhere in Cambodia, upon arriving they put on the film The Killing Fields about the genocide of the Khmer Rouge, and it seems incredible that in such a short time Cambodians have "forgotten" what happened. The restaurant serves good food and the staff is very helpful, I trust them so much that I left my passport so I could get a visa for Laos and not have to wait several days. They sent me directly to Siem Reap, and I just paid a few dollars more.
The Cambodiana Hotel is situated in the city of Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Its location makes it ideal, placed adjacent to the Mekong River, only 200 meters from the Royal Palace and 200 meters from the Royal Pagoda Hotel. The service of the hotel is impecable, the staff are available 24 hours a day for any kind of eventuality. The rooms are comfortable.
The Amanjaya Hotel is situated in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This hotel enjoys an excellent location in the city center, located near to the best luages in the center. It is a subtle blend of French and Thai cuisine, as it offers a conference room for business events. The rooms are very spacious and warm.
This guesthouse is located on the right just over the other side of river if you're coming from Phnom Penh. The rooms inside the house are made of wood and are very simple, with a shared bathroom. The cost is low, and the owner and his family are very welcoming. Our double room had a double bed with a mosquito net and table. There are common areas with sofas, a lamp, and sockets.
If you're planning a detour to the floating village of Kompong Chang, this guesthouse is in the central part of the town, on the right of Krakor. You can stay in a nice double room for just a few dollars, and the central location makes it easy to explore the settlement. The rooms have private bathrooms, with a simple bucket for washing, and wall seasons which will help you cool down if you're in Cambodia during the wet season. The owner is friendly enough, but you're more likely to spend time talking with his assistant, a boy who will help take your luggage upstairs.
The Mad Monkey hostel was founded by, and is still run by, British and American travelers. Although the location is not central (it is in a prime area near the embassies), it is my favourite hostel in Phnom Penh. The staff are always very friendly (especially Tina, who in my opinion is the happiest person in the world), the rooms are spacious and very clean, and the hostel has a good area for socialising. The bar and restaurant are a real highlight; despite the prices being a bit expensive for Cambodia, the food is delicious. I've stayed in both a shared room and a private room, and the experience was fantastic each time. The bed is super soft and comfortable (slightly larger than a single and a little less than double).
