Church of Our Lady of Conception

1 review of Church of Our Lady of Conception

Dedicated to Saint Louis, King of France

TheChurch of Our Lady of Conception is a bit away from the center, near Viriato tunnel and opposite Casa da Ribeira. It's an old chapel where the Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Conception was established and is dedicated to Saint Louis, King of France (a seventeenth century statue is inside). It was rebuilt in 1757 by architect Antonio Mendes Coutinho and access is via a monumental staircase (early twentieth century). The facade is quite simple, but nice and the highlights are its front, framed in granite, between windows and topped with a shield with Marian scenes. It has a single tower on the right.
