Church of the Archangel

This church is located in the Captain Dyado Nikola Plaza next to Shkoloto and the Clock Tower. It was founded in the twelfth century and rebuilt in 1821. It's below ground level to meet the ottoman conditions that no church could be higher than any mosque. The roof actually almost touches the ground. Inside there's a balcony reserved just for women. The iconostasis was done by the Vitanov family and frescoes are from the Zahariev family.
