Dambulla Meadows

The Dambulla monasteries are in large rocks that dominate a completely flat landscape. It's a great contrast, and the meadows are very nice to explore, to hike through, or for the less adventurous, to take a guided tuk tuk through. If you want to hire a guide, make sure to talk to them first to check their level of English. Some look very good so at the beginning, with the first few sentences, but once you hire them, you realize they don't know how to explain the place's history, and when you ask normal questions, they don't understand or can't answer. In the meadows, there are some very nice jungle hotels with swimming pools and air conditioning.
