Los Calaos Restaurant

Great place, I knew I would not be disappointed. Located in the lovely old part of the town of Briones, in an emblematic building of the 17th century, this restaurant, also a rural cottage, is picturesque and welcoming.

Actually, the name of the restaurant comes from the "calaos" of the building. The "calaos" are the places formerly used for the aging and ripening of wine, some kind of natural or artificial cave used to stock and preserve wine. The "calaos" of the restaurant date back to a wine cellar of the 17th century and have been rebuilt in a great way.

As you can see, the place is charming and has history. You realize it as soon as you enter through one of the two doors. You could say there are three areas with two dining rooms. There is an independent round table on the right of the entrance in San Juan Street. The larger dining room is behind curtains. It is the largest room of the restaurant, an authentic "calao"; and finally, in the back of this large room, on the right side, going down stairs that seem full of mystery, you arrive to another very quiet dining room, without a doubt a very special one.

Briones is the perfect village to arrive in the morning, visit it and end up tasting some local dish in one of the good restaurants. One of them, Los Calaos, is for sure a quality restaurant that has all the necessary ingredients that makes it unforgettable.

The atmosphere is special, as if you were in the cave of a wine cellar of La Rioja. The service is fantastic. And the food... Delicious. We went there today and I must say the service was very good. Quality, elaborated dishes and variety in a charming place. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is true that it is not one of the cheapest, but it is not expensive either if you look at the value and price relationship.

Briones is the perfect town to reach on a morning, walk it and finish the day by tasting some local delicacy in one of its good restaurants. One of them is, without a doubt, Los Calaos, a quality restaurant with all the necessary ingredients for an unforgettable experience.

The atmosphere is special, as if you were inside a wine cellar in La Rioja. The service is fantastic, and the food…delicious. It is a perfect place to taste food from La Rioja: cold meats, asparagus, potatoes…and meat. Of course, everything must be accompanied by wine. The wine menu is fantastic, it couldn’t be otherwise.
