World Heritage Site

From Budapest, in a southern eastbound direction, lies the Great Hungarian Plain or Puszta, which occupies about half of Hungary. The Hortobágy National Park has been a World Heritage Site since 1999 and a clear example of the landscape and culture of the Puszta: vast expanses of flat land as far as the eye can see between marshes and grass, for the livestock and horses. These native breed called "vernier" brought fame to their riders or "Csikós" as they're the best in the world. This tradition can still be seen in the shows that occasionally still take place. Scattered farms with strange wells and amazing animals: geese grimsly, hairy pigs, big horn cows, buffaloes, sheep and goats with twisted horns.
