2 reviews of Temple of Hephaestus

it is surrounded by gardens and trees, which make it even more beautiful.

Although this place is not actually located within the Acropolis, the Temple of Hephaestus has a majesty which is comparable to the Parthenon. It is situated in the ancient Agora and was built in honor of Hephaestus, who is the god of the forge. The temple is the best preserved Doric to be found in Greece and was built in the year 449 BC by Ictino, which was one of the architects of the Parthenon, hence the similarities to be found between the two buildings. The Temple of Hephaestus is made up of 34 columns and a frieze which recounts nine of the twelve labors of Heracles (Hercules in Greek that is).
