The final Imperial Forum

Trajan's Forum was the final Imperial forum built in Rome. It's located near the Piazza Venezia and the monument to Vittorio Emmanuel III. It was built by the Emperor Trajan and is known for the massive column built in memory of his conquests in Dacia. To create this awe-inspiring forum, the Romans had to level two nearby hills, the Quirinale and the Campodoglio. All Imperial Forums are relatively close together and you can visit them at the same time that you visit the Colosseum.

Best to visit at night

Trajan's Forum is the largest and most well-preserved of all the imperial forums near the Colosseum. It was built by the Emperor Trajan in the 2nd century to commemorate his victories over the Dacians, the most notable spoil of which is the famous Trajan's Column. The architect who designed this forum was the famous Apollodorus of Damascus, who performed the amazing feat of moving over 800,000 cubic meters of earth in order to attain smooth enough terrain to build the forum. Due to its beauty and great location, the Forum became a center of publicizing laws and distributing money to the people.
