This was a pleasant discovery after several unsuccessful attempts to find a typical Sardinian restaurant in the streets of Cagliari. The Piazza Yenne has several restaurants with terraces in the square, but they are full of tourists and that's not what I wanted. You will find Ammentos and "typical cucina sarda" on the facade. We let the hostess to order us whatever she wanted. We had antipasti to start served on pieces of oak cork found on the island's mountains, then local grilled vegetables, cheeses and sausages. For the entree, a large plate of pasta, fragole with mushrooms, and for dessert, a muscat liqueur with traditional sweets. A feast in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere for about 20 euros per person, everything included. A nice place to stay.
It is located in the terrace of the Saint Remy Bastion, below the neoclassical facade, in the Castelo area. Open Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 3:00 pm, you can enjoy either breakfast or dinner, a drink or a coffee, while enjoying the terrace overlooking the city.
It has an exceptional location at the top of the citadel, the walls and the incredible views from these. Entering Elephant Tower on the left you'll find it. Its modern outdoor furniture, good atmosphere and delicious cocktails contribute to make it a perfect place for an evening drink.
We went to this pizzeria once and returned every day after that because it really is the best pizza in town. They have a variety of toppings and you choose a piece of the ones you like, weigh them and they charge by the total weight. They have all kinds of toppings: meats, vegetables, seafood. They have spectacular crust, the real trick to great pizza. And best of all is the value, two people eat well for less than 10 euros, with drinks included! Definitely highly recommended.
This restaurant specializing in seafood offers a 20 € menu, and after talking with the owner, he included the wine, a really good white. We had three appetizers as starters, then the first course of either spaghetti with clams or the Sardinian specialty, and the second was fried fish with eels and crabs. Not bad, but not great. The spaghetti was delicious though. Coffee was included, and we left quite full.
We went for lunch here on some friends' recommendation, and I really liked it. The interior reminds me of the cafes you'll find in Trieste, so I felt at home. The service is very friendly, and the sun-shaped bread was a charming detail. We decided to sit on the terrace, which is nice if a bit noisy. The pasta with fresh seafood was delicious.
The Via Roma, or the Cagliari boardwalk, has on the mountain side some buildings with porticoes and palaces from the early twentieth century which protects the pedestrians passing through the Marina district. This neighbourhood was originally intended to house the workers from the port, customs, fishermen and general townsfolk of Cagliari. It is divided into parallel and perpendicular streets. Under the arcades mentioned above, have a coffee at the tables of Torino Cafe, perfect for relaxing after visiting all the Castello.
The street Largo Carlo Felice begins at the port and flows into the Piazza Yenne. It is a mandatory route to explore in the city. Halfway along the walk, it is necessary that you stop at this gelato cafe to enjoy a variety of excellent homemade ice creams at affordable prices. The ice cream in the photo cost us only one euro.
Imagine that you are in a city you do not really, like Cagliari, that you are extremely hungry, and you do not know where to eat. After strolling around downtown and with so much gastronomic competition you finally decide on a restaurant that you've never heard of. You are starting to have hunger pangs. You order a white wine, Karmis, a prawn and vegetable salad, and a pasta alle vongole and basil. For dessert you order a lemon sorbet. Your fellow travellers order antipasti and spinach ravioli with ricotta, ending with Panacota and Tiramisu. The total would be 24 € per person with excellent service.
In Cagliari, ice cream parlours are like bakers in France: you'll find them absolutely everywhere. After five months of Erasmus in the capital of Sardinia, I tried a good number of these gelaterias, and L'Isola del Gelato is definitely in my top five. It's in the busy Piazza Yenne, a popular spot for nightlife, and offers a selection of more than 200 flavours of ice cream. Melon, stracciatella, Kinder Bueno, passion fruit .... There really is something for everyone.
On our first day in town, and already tired from the heat, we started looking for a place to eat. After checking out a few restaurants, we found Corallo, and a local man encouraged us to go in, claiming they served a good meal. Since he was a local, we trusted him. Surprisingly though, it was a Chinese restaurant. I thought it was going to be a typical restaurant. They had a set menu for € 15 to choose between various dishes. For an appetizer, it offered various kinds of dough cooked in different ways, and as an entree, meat, or fish with vegetables, or a salad. Also included were a drink, bread, and dessert or coffee. The second dish was good, but not out of the ordinary. The pasta, however, was scrumptious. My ravioli was giant and the lasagna was huge. There must have been about 10 layers or so, and it was delicious. Even though we ordered the lunch menu, they kept bringing mussel dishes and other delicious things. As we were leaving the restaurant, we realized that there was a sign indicating that they specialized in typical Sardinian food, especially in seafood. I guess that's what the man was referring to. But if you want to try Sardinian food, you have to go here.
Where I come from, Happy Hour means cheap drinks - but here in Sardinia, it has a completely different meaning: during Happy Hour, your drink comes with a free tapa. Quality and quantity vary according to the bar - sometimes chips, sometimes toasts with toppings. In the center of Cagliari, in the old palace of Ex Poste Regie, there is a beautiful new room, reached through the streets of the Marina District. It takes its name from Punta Tricoli, a mountain in the territory of Gairloch, in the heart of Ogliastra. The location is fantastic, the local food is good, and the staff is very friendly. Must try!
Cozy cafe / restaurant sitauted right behind the town hall where you can enjoy a coffee in the square by the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia. The price is affordable ...well... it's cheap! Also there is wifi which isn´t bad. The truth is that I recommend the place. Bye.
