One of the things that surprise you the more before going in, is the historical building of the 15th Century with its beautiful façade and excellent location in downtown Vitoria.
Once inside, you will not be disappointed with the main dining room and various private rooms for family and business dinners.
The food is quite good, traditional Basque cuisine. I tried the duck (one of my favorite dishes) and it was very good. I was not surprised with the entrees; maybe I was expecting something more. But the wine is very good, something happens in this area that the wine tastes better here than in Madrid. By the way, the wine cellar is spectacular.
With excellent raw materials, this restaurant offers a typical cuisine with meat grilled in oak and olive wood ovens; they offer carefully selected steak from the best Galician cows.
They also offer seafood and fish from the Bay of Biscay, Galicia and Tarifa…they grill the entire pieces over the hot coal. As for vegetables, they have asparagus from Navarra, white artichoke from Tudela, beans, peas, wheat and all kinds of seasonal vegetables impregnated with the subtle smoke of the olive wood.
Sagartoki also has a variety of excellent tapas, pinchos and plates…the walls display their most awarded pinchos.
It has two big dining rooms that can organize banquets, family celebrations, company groups, events, etc. it is very close to the new cathedral.
In the emblematic area of Cuchillerías Street, you can’t miss this fabulous restaurant. The quality-quantity relationship is great and the service is quick and efficient. It has a small terrace and a space inside that fills up very quickly.
The lunch menu is around 15 € and the presentation of the dishes doesn’t need to envy other more show off restaurants.
Dishes that blend flavors and colors that are impossible and that explode in your mouth leaving you without words, these sensations are from the first course to dessert. The place itself, designed by Mariscal, is worth a visit, but also the attention of the service is fantastic. Iñaki and Asier, ve are the chefs at the restaurant often come to chat with diners, and are always willing to answer questions from those ve are curious. You can eat a la carte menu or not, but I definitely recommend one of the tasting menus as it is delicious and gives you more variation. Do not be fooled by the size of the dishes: even the most fussy eater will be happy.
The Marixa Restaurant offers a spectacular menu with specialties of the area.
We decided to try different entrees: a delicious filled chard with cream, beans with Iberian ham, poached egg and foie. As a second dish we had oxtail and filled baby squid.
All the dishes were excellent and the presentation was beautiful. Moreover, the service was very good and the place is big and comfortable.
The restaurant is located in the beautiful town of Laguardia, a historical place that, along with the good food, became an unforgettable experience while we were in Álava.
Modern place, yes; modern cuisine, yes; traditional touch, yes. These three affirmations usually mean “expensive restaurant where you don’t eat much and many times you don’t eat well). It is not the case of this restaurant. The food is excellent, as well as the decoration and atmosphere; the surroundings are unbeatable, next to the contemporary art museum of Vitoria.
I loved the Santoña anchovies. If you love anchovies as much as I do, come to this place. All the entrees were fantastic. As a second plate we tried the ox fillet and the codfish. It was all delicious.
The desserts…it is easier to describe with a photograph in this case. Delicious. An special mention to the white brownie with violets, you can’t miss it.
The service is excellent.
This is a newly renovated restaurant called Olárizu. It has a very large main hall that caters up to 270 people. It also has a dining room for the day's menu and 4 private dining rooms for groups of 5 or less where you can eat in complete privacy. The menu combines the purest traditional Basque cuisine with riskier innovations, resulting in a rich variety of cuisine and distinctive flavors.
A great restaurant. At the weekends, make a reservation, because it's always full - their 15-euro menu is pretty good. They offer a choice of seven starters and seven main courses with dessert, drink and bread. You can find the local rice, lasagne, squid, steak, lamp chops, cod, etc. The service is quick and efficient, but also very warm and friendly - service with a smile! Recommended if you're in the area and want to eat cheaply and well.
We went with some friends to eat at this restaurant, and we tried a few tapas many which were great. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays they offer an open bar for only 13 euros. The tapas are varied and perfect sizes to try a little of everything. Also the owners very nice and attentive.
The first thing I'll give you is the web address: http://www.Saburdi.Com/. I don't know how the charming waiters don't go crazy serving the multitude of patrons at the bar, responding to all their questions about descriptions of snacks and everything. A spectacle and delight for the senses.
Thanks to the recommendation of minube I went to dinner, my first night at Vitoria, here. Good products are used, we tried the chili which was so soft. The grilled octopus was superior and they have an excellent wine list. Enjoy a great dinner or lunch here.
This is a small bar, located on the main avenue that leads from the centre of Vitoria to the AC, where we were staying. Looking for a place to have some pintxos, our attention was caught by the bustle at the door, so I went to see what was going on ... and this bar really is a secret gem. There are three young waiters serving in the bar with truly unprecedented efficiency, taking portions everywhere. The tortilla is delicious, but be warned that the morcilla sausage is quite hot! If you love tortilla, this is the place for you. The price is 1.50 pintxo and wine 0.90.
Wine lovers will find plenty to interest them here. We found all the wines produced in the Rioja region, along with a personalised service - they'll guide you even if you don't make a purchase. For those who are really interested, you can buy other tools like glasses, corkscrews, etc. It's an important place in Alava, as the wines from this part of Spain are so fine.
Xixilu restaurant is a pleasant spot for up to 100 people, which is located in the heart of the city. Among the dishes, which change with the seasons, you can choose from a wide range of fish, vegetables, mushrooms, traditional dishes, and various desserts. But perhaps the most outstanding dish are the red beans. There are many options available here, but I particularly recommend going for tapas and snacks. In the summer months, it has a terrace on Plaza Amarica, an ideal spot to eat outside and enjoy watching the streets of Vitoria.
There are 3 Fu Li Tu restaurants in Vitoria, and although at first glance they might seem like any other Chinese restaurant, that's really not the case. You can order a la carte or from the buffet, which costs 9 € (which is what everybody does). The buffet has a wide variety of Chinese food, but there's also great quality non-Chinese offerings, too. You can enjoy vegetables, different types of meat, fish or seafood, prepared as you want (grilled, steamed, etc), then brought to your table. Fast service and very good value for money.
Located in the medieval town of Gasteiz, this has decor that reflects its surroundings, a mixture of rustic and medieval. It's a two-storey building with a beautiful facade. The menu has some traditional Basque dishes, but they specialise in grilled meats. They also have a daily tasting menu at very good prices and an interesting wine list. The service is great (just a quick warning: I've had problems paying by card before, bring cash just in case). Superb quality / price ratio. And finally, a few steps away you find the magnificent cathedral of Vitoria.
Kaskagorri is located in the famous Plaza del Machete, below the Church of San Vicente and next to famous landmarks like the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca. In my opinion it's one of the best restaurants in Vitoria, thanks to the chef, Iosu Sainz Munilla, who blends traditional Basque cuisine with cutting edge techniques. The wide variety of hot pintxos are a real highlight, and the best day to go is Thursday, when they have "pintxo-pot", ie a day when you'll get a free pintxo with your drink. One thing to keep in mind is that this restaurant is closed on Mondays and is open for dining Tuesday through Sunday, lunch 13 to 15 hours and dinner from 21 to 23 hours.
