If you're looking to cool off on a hot day in La Jolla, head to Shakeaway, the "World's Largest Milkshake Bar Company". Shakeaway was first started in the UK in 1999 and gained huge popularity. While the chain is still fairly new to the international market, it is easy to see why they developed such a cult-like following across the pond. With over 180 flavours and millions of combinations, you can customize your milkshake to contain any type of candy, confection or chocolate bar that you could possibly imagine. The mix-ins are blended into a vanilla-based milkshake, and voila - your very own custom, designer milkshake. Now the only challenge is to drink it before it melts!
After a wonderful morning spent at the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute of Oceanography in La Jolla, we walked to Shorehouse Kitchen for lunch. I had read excellent reviews online but I was anxious to see if it lived up to the hype.
It absolutely did.
Right from the moment we arrived, the service was absolutely impeccable - the best we had during our entire week in San Diego. The menu is full of unique Californian-style items with a healthy twist. And as you'd expect, there is a way to gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegan-ize almost anything on the menu. If I lived in La Jolla, I would eat here once a week. Bravo!
