During a Caribbean cruise I made a stop in Aruba. I went for a walk around the city, and a taxi driver took me to the north. From a distance you see a mountain called the Mountain of Hay. There are points in a rock formation which you can climb up in order to see the whole the island. Then I went to see the famous bridge "coral" that no longer exists, because it collapsed in a wave. Well, it´s not all bad. All along the coast, there are like stone turrets, which have nothing to do with Arubans. They are made by the tourists, because they say it brings good luck. After this, I went to see a building that was a fort, where gold was melted. As a stop for a few hours, is was pretty good.

Queen Beatrix International Airport

Aruba Airport is located just 4 km from the island's capital, Oranjestad. It is pretty new as it was completely remodeled in 2003. It consists of two buildings, one dedicated exclusively to flights to the United States. It operates with companies such as Air Canada, American Airlines, Avianca, Caribair, Dutch Antilles Express ... With flights to the United States, Canada, Central America, Latin America and Europe. There is no place to smoke in the airport, however, there is a small bar-stall in an area outside the building with tables and terrace. The airport has wifi for you to use, and it only has 2 or 3 shops that close at 6pm or 7pm, so do not count on trying to make any big purchases at this airport.

Aruba could be referred to as a shopper's paradise as it has all kinds of shopping centers and duty free stores. This mall is located near the port, opposite the pier. It has 130 stores, plus two casinos, cinema, 20 restaurants and cafes, and the Renaissance Aruba Resort Marriott chain. The center even has a pier inside, from where boats depart about conducting tours of the island of Palm. The stores are tax free, so you can buy things at great prices. There are perfumes, clothing stores (major brand), cigar ... It is an outdoor mall (like the Village Rozas de Madrid), with several buildings and heights where the establishments.

We visited Aruba on a cruise 8 years ago and were very suprised. We got to the island by taxi and toured the city of Oranjestad by foot. There are a lot of tourist shops, such as jewlers and souviner shops. The historic center reminds us a little bit of Holland. There is also an island where you can party or visit a quiet beach. You can see it all in 2 days.

From Oranjestad (Aruba) it is just a 30min drive the Arikok National Park. One of the most famous things to see here is the "monkey face" rock. There is also a suspension bridge with a small bar restaurant that serves drinks and local snacks.

That's the premise at Moomba Beach, one of the most fashionable places in Aruba, in Palm Beach. Half of their tables are inside a giant hut, the other half on the white sandy beach. When the evening starts to fall, the lanterns are lit and visitors flood the space to enjoy good food in this place, with a menu of seafood dishes. Grilled fish, pasta with seafood, burgers with seafood, and snails. The atmosphere is completed with a Mojito, daiquiri, tequila sunrise or aruba-riba, a local drink which is formed by several spirits. This extends the night to a party with the moon and stars for a roof. Bands enliven the evening, the sea in the background of the songs, and tourists mingle between dance and party weekends take over this place.

Atlantis Submarine Expedition
This is perhaps one of the best experiences you can have on Aruba island. The Atlantis Submarine was installed in the small Caribbean country in 1998, and is one of the most sought after attractions for tourists. Tickets are purchased at the dock, and everyone embarks on a vessel sailing for about 15 minutes until the submarine emerging from the water picks up the group for a 20 minute under the sea exploration of Aruba. The submarine descends 20 meters and on the way, you can see fish and general marine life, if you're lucky a diver can greet from the outside, which is exciting.
