Fontevraud Abbey is the last stage of the route of The Loire Pays de la Loire. It is truly Impressive. This monastic complex was founded in the eleventh century. It is magical and enchanting, as it is a spectacular building. The history that permeates its walls, the details of the architecture and design of each corner make you feel privileged to see it. And the Abbey witnessed the life of Plantagenet. In fact, there lie the remains of Eleanor of Aquitaine with Henry II Plantagenet, Richard the Lionheart, (their son), and Isabella of Angouleme (second wife of John Lackland). At the time of Napoleon I, some units were used as prison cells. Today, the 14 hectares of the Abbey of Fontevraud devoted exclusively to cultural programs which hosts many shows, exhibitions and concerts. It is the benchmark of all the art and culture of the area. You can take your audoguide tour in Castilian! Walking through the gardens of the abbey, you can see the architecture of its buildings. Its splendor is absolutely incredible, it has done a perfect job of recreating a moment in time when everything was revolved around religion. It now serves as a cultural center with world-class art exhibitions, concerts and shows. You absolutely must visit this place!
