Castles in Tübingen
Hohentübingen Castle
(4)
This palace-castle is situated on top of the city. Although it began in the twelfth century it was not completed until the sixteenth century. After suffering battles, destruction and some blasts in different parts, today it has become the icon of this city. It is a mixture of medieval castle, fortress and a typical construction of the region. Since 1997 it houses the Museum of the University of Tübingen, with teaching collections of the Institute of Prehistory and Early History, Classical Archaeology, Numismatics and Egyptology work, and a collection of molds Near East. There's even a warehouse where they breed bats (vampires) the world's largest. The entire palace is open, once inside, look for the runners; tunnels that take you from one side to the other. They are narrow, cold and dark with almost no light, just with small ocher-colored bulbs. You move in single-file and if you see someone coming towards you, better to stop and let them pass. It echoes, your footsteps and breath .. and if you hear another voice .. uuuhh! When the language is Spanish it's OK, but when you do not understand the language you get scared.
City Halls in Tübingen
Tuebingen Rathaus
(3)
The city hall of Tübingen dominates the beautiful Market Square, in the heart of the city. The building of the fifteenth century, was erected in 1435 and enlarged in the sixteenth century. The striking western facade of graffito, is full of details. Stunning masterpiece of 1876. The city also has an astronomical clock dating back to 1511. The building, perfectly preserved, dates from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century. In addition to the Town Hall, Market Square is surrounded by medieval walls and houses the Neptune Fountain, 1617, by Heinrich Schickhard. The most beautiful area of the old city. It is worth pausing.
Churches in Tübingen
St. George's Collegiate Church
(4)
This church, in the heart of Tübinguen or Tübingen, and was constructed between the years 1440 and 1529. The complex has a tower, 3 aisles with rows of side chapels and clerestory. Inside, are the ancient tombs of dukes, the reading room in the Gothic style, and the choir, also Gothic, considered one of the most lovely in Germany. You can get there by going up one of the steep slopes of Tübingen. Although the church is striking, I recommend visiting the inside. It is free. What I liked most were the windows of the choir. The church is in great condition. It is a chance to see intact samples of the XV and XVI centuries.
Rivers in Tübingen
Neckar River
(2)
At first when Spanish people visit Germany, they find it funny, or at least curious, that there is always someone cleaning the public toilets and charging you 50 cents or even one euro to "pee". After a few weeks on holiday, these toilets will start to seem very expensive. On this particular day, we were looking for a place, like a tree or a field, to take a leak, and I found this great place. An entire side of a huge river just for me, well all the buildings had windows overlooking the river, but the giant trees helped me have a little privacy. Afterwards, walking back down this slope for almost an hour was a gift from God ..

Walk to Hohentübingen Castle
(2)
The climb up to the "Schloss" can be done from two different places: the old city center, where you get up via the back of the palace. If you want to enter through the front door you have to leave the old town, crossing a pedestrian tunnel that crosses the mountains and begin to follow the slope of the road which will take you up towards the Schloss. It is a wonderful walk! I recommend that you go slowly, taking your time to enjoy all the scenery that surrounds you. Facades, windows, stone streets, buildings and alleys impossible for architects of today, couples in love, loners, a number of details that will make your ascent to the palace much more bearable despite its slopes ..
Cities in Tübingen
Alterstadt
(3)
The splendid town of Tübingen is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful cities in southern Germany. At least, the old town has been preserved as it was during the past centuries. Streets, alleys, canals, buildings, passages .., everything seems like it belongs in the past. It is a university city with a very good reputation, perhaps the best in Germany. Thousands of students live in this city, which has the very nice touch that walking the streets is easier and more comfortable for bikes than for cars, even in the most modern part. Since I was there for 2 days, on the first day I spent my time on a bike, enjoy the cycle path, which is the best I've ever experienced. The second day, I started to walk around and photograph it, it was an absolute blast! Not too expensive, safe, quiet, with many gambling dens. In the evenings I always enjoyed a delicious German beer. Its price is almost, almost, more affordable than in Spain! I met people, students, hippies, lonely and drunk I said to a bartender - "I would give high marks to Tübingen".
Streets in Tübingen
Ammergasse
(1)
Ammer Alley, a beautiful street well maintained and decorated, you can´t get tired of walking along the canal, crowded with flowers, some of the corners. On one side of the alley the other buildings are from many centuries back, with backyards featuring authentic balconies made by a clever architect. Go zigzag by this alley, "Ammergasse" going through all the alleys and corners, this experience is a trip to Germany in the 16th and seventee17thnth centuries ..
Churches in Tübingen
Stiftskirche
(1)
I really enjoy visiting the churches and cathedrals around about ..! I almost never enter them, but I love seeing that around. This surprise could not have been greater. The church is on the banks of a huge river, the Neckar, which crosses the city. I soon realized that it was not just a church, but the building of city Deanery evangelist. I went to the rear gardens, surrounded by nearly 30 m-trees., some swings for children, a piece of grass to lie down on .., so I did, I lay on the scarf I was carrying in my bag, I ate half a sandwich and let those black birds, those that you see flying over forests, relax me with their strange squawking ..
Squares in Tübingen
Holzmarkt Square
(1)
This is the square that falls just to the side of the collegiate church of the city. It was a shame that they were restoring it, both outside and inside, on the day that I arrived. Anyway, this place has a really good atmosphere. There are stairs and several buildings offer it protection. This makes it a more welcoming and warm place, just what the Germans want ..., on the stairs where the "locals" sit and talk, passing their time people watching. In one corner are a couple of little bars, on a landing a few meters higher than the square. It gives the air and the sun for several hours a day, it is almost always full of people...., lol! I am told ....
Squares in Tübingen
Market Square (Marktplatz)
The things I liked best about Tubingen are its architectural wealth, its bustle, its environment and the market. The Renaissance town hall has an artistic astronomical clock built by the famous mathematician Johannes Stöffler (ve was born in the city), around 1551. The Fountain of Neptune is one of its significant features where university students meet during the academic year. In the tourist center of the town, a must see is the city hall with paintings of the sixteenth century. We sat at one of the lively terraces and tasted the rich Black Forest cake, it's one of the things you can do here, sit and watch time while enjoying pointed facades of infinite colors, but in the end, the astronomical clock and the sound take us back to reality.
Streets in Tübingen
Kornhausstrasse
(2)
It is one of the streets of the heart of Tübingen. In the middle is the museum of the city, the "Stadtmuseum" from the beginning of the 90s in one of the most emblematic establishments of the city, the "Kornhaus", which is what gives its name to this street. A building still standing since the year 1453, Old Market, old school, old hall, old hall, to old tavern .., old on all 4 sides. Kornhaus is a street full of beautiful buildings, colorful, no doubt, intended to give some light to the sky that is always gray, inGermany ..
Viewpoints in Tübingen
Hohentübingen Park
(2)
Just before the main door of the "Schloss", there is a small little park on the right hand side. It is round, and quite small, with a diameter of just 40m. To go the whole way round the park, it only takes 2 minutes without stopping ... but, that's just what you should not do. The park acts as a viewpoint, there are several views of the city, you see two sides and the way up from the central square. Also, if the go round the whole park, you will find in one of the corners a watchtower from where you get one of the defensive side of the palace walls, where one imagines receiving enemy attacks to try to take the palace ... don´t forget, it´s just before the entrance to the palace! When you get to the gates, after climbing the hill, emotion and fatigue lead you into the palace and you can spend a long time there ..
Historical Monuments in Tübingen
Nonnenhaus Tübingen
(1)
This convent has no name ("Nonenhaus" means nunnery, or convent in Spanish). It is situated in the center of the beautiful historic city of Tübingen. It was constructed in the mid-15th Century as the first convent of Dominican nuns. Later on, it became the place the first botanical garden in the city was established. It is a beautiful building, looked after by the town. It rises up next to the canal which crosses the village (from "Ammerkanal"). It is surrounded by other buildings which are just as nice and still relies on a front construction which, according to legend, was a laboratory in its day. This makes it even more mysterious to the neighbors.

Platanenallee
An incredible avenue of trees envelops us as we stroll along the banks of one of the most romantic rivers of southern Germany, the Neckar. You can see Hölderlin Tower, depicting the famed Romantic poet of the city. Wherever you go and everywhere you look, it is impossible not to fall into love. Tubingen is a bustling, student town, very atmospheric, but in the Platanenallee you forget everything and relax. The tourist office is right at the beginning of the route and there you can get a handy map in Castilian with the suggested route and explanation of the different emblematic points in the historical center.

Tübinger Stift
(1)
This former Augustinian Monastery and student dorm is one of the most special places in Tubingen. I really was excited to see the place where great thinkers studied like Hegel, Kepler and the romantic poet Hölderlin, Johannes Staupitz, spiritual mentor of Martin Luther, worked here 1497-1498. Entry to the building is free and once inside you can enjoy the quiet cloister full of flowers, but especially history, philosophy, mathematics and poetry. From 1262 the Augustinian Hermits were installed along the river Neckar in this large building with four wings. In the fifteenth century the great restorations begin with the arrival of the Reformation in Württemberg but in 1534-1535 the monastery was dismantled. I was guided by the spirit of the great thinkers ve passed through here, and without hesitation, (despite other amazing and beautiful parts of Tubingan) I'll take this. To get there walk along the banks of the Neckar and discover buildings and residences with history and cultural - it's quite a prize for a curious traveler like me!

Tubingen City Wall
If there is a site that identifies Tubingen, its Zwingel, the old city wall that runs along the Neckar shore and that leads to the historic center of the town. The remains of the old medieval city date back to 18th century and it's now a meeting point for students and tourists. A narrow alley allows you accees to a few feet of the remains of the wall and takes you to the Neckarbad, a public bath with picturesque narrow streets. The Zwingel is the famous and appreciated "front" of Tubingen, with its multicolored houses where the pedestal of the Defense Tower stands, now the museum Hölderlin, where the great, romantic poet lived until his death in 1843. The beautiful image of the old wall, the river Neckar below, weeping willows that combine perfectly with the poet's house, boats; everything in this place gives a romantic, aesthetic beauty to the city. The best place to photograph is from the old bridge very close to the Tourist Office!.
