Lakes in Duluth
Berkeley Chapel
The Chapel of Berkeley Lake, located just across from the city hall, gives that area the air of an urban place within a green landscape that ends with a beautiful view of the lake, now dry due to technical problems, which are in process of being resolved. The current forest environment is nice, and when it is finished the lake patadise will again be a part of the landscape, ... Meanwhile, although it is private, it opens its doors to visitors and rents its space out for social and community events. The number of times I've been there, have been for Scouting ceremonies, where children receive their honors before moving to a new challenge within the organization, what they call the "Cross Over" 'in the tradition established over 100 years ago. A quiet place with picnic tables, that when they do reinstate the lake, will take a major role in its environment.
Of Cultural Interest in Duluth
Duluth Fall Festival
Its no wonder that in Spain, small populations take advantage of the festival to generate commercial and recreational activities. They turn a public space into a meeting place, and that is exactly what I felt last fall when we were at the Duluth Festival. There were many area businesses, from multinationals to family businesses, that would display their work, handing out leaflets and some even giving samples. There were also artisan groups who shared their works and used the place to demonstrate in front of the council facilities. The center of Duluth spreads out onto a few streets, but the institutional buildings are easy to spot and people value the parks and surrounding activities. We went out of curiosity, but in the end my son enjoyed the mechanical attractions which were set up in the area. We got to spend a couple of hours of very nice family time, getting to know the place, its customs and people. These meetings make you more closer to the place you visit and better understand their environment, even at a popular market.
Cinemas in Duluth
Venture Cinema 12
I met my son a movie theater, ideal, .... ie cheap, heh heh heh Next to the Santa Fe Shopping center in Duluth, northeast of Atlanta, is the Venture Cinema multiplex with 12 screens with original version films that are already out in normal cinemas. The rooms although correct, if somewhat worn, but the upholstery and furniture in general is not the latest trend. The box office only accepts cash. You enter a large foyer with cinematic themes related posters and a small bar that sells snacks, popcorn and soda. Rooms are accessed by a central corridor. A place to go and see a movie, if you couldn't see it when it first came out, and this at a great price, less than 2 euro entry.
Shopping Malls in Duluth
Santa Fe Mall
I went to the mall to go to the cinema, because I found out that Ventura sell tickets to movies that are no longer in theaters for only $ 2, which is about 1.70 euros, and in times of crisis you can't beat that. It has ample parking and is open daily. Premises inside sell, mostly, typical Mexican products, including piñatas, ponchos and hats. The atmosphere of the place is very South American with music, kiosks in the hallways and Spanish-speaking locals. There is arecreational area, a hairdresser, restauarntes, jewelry, jersey sales and party clothes for special occasions. A place to buy something concrete and cheaply.
Leisure Areas in Duluth
Shorty Howell Park
Gwinnett County has a large number of parks, including Shorty Howell on Pleasant Hill. It's a huge park with green areas, a lake, a forest, playgrounds, tracks and kiosks. Its main attractions are the football fields and baseball practice areas. It's the leading location for various events and organized activities. It has a large parking area and picnic area. It's a place where urban meets the outdoors, where, in good weather, you can spend time with family and friends. Several spaces can be rented for private events and parties by contacting the information booth or county recreation offices.
Of Cultural Interest in Duluth
Beargrease Dog Sled Race
The Beargrease Dog Sled Race: A sled dog marathon in early February/late January that typically starts in Duluth, MN and goes all the way to the northern border of the state is named after John Beargrease. John Beargrease was a trapper who used to haul up to 700 lbs of mail up from Duluth to Grand Marais and surrounding areas. The sled dog race plays very nice tribute to that history- requiring each racer to carry along a mail bag with them and to submit it to the race officials at the end of the run. Like any sled dog race, snow is a vital part of making the run, so in past years they have had to cancel the race on account of too little snow. In 2015 the race began in Two Harbors rather than Duluth because there wasn't enough snow that far south. If you're planning on going to watch the race and cheer on the teams then make sure to check out the website for updates. They have a very nice live GPS feature so you can see where every racer is at the moment.
