About 15 minutes by car from Atlanta Downtown, between Marietta and Kennessaw, is what locals call the "Kenessaw Mountain Park": a mountain in which many battles of the American Civil War took place. Nowadays it's a recreation site, popular with the locals, with a well-marked walking route of approximately 1300 m. As you hike you'll see plaques pointing out the sites of the different battles. At the top is a great viewpoint with fantastic 360 degree views over the city. The park entrance is free, and there is plenty of parking near the different starting points, which can make your hike easier or more difficult as you choose. At night it's a popular spot for young people looking for romance in their cars ... or so they say!
A visit to Dick's in Kennessaw was one of my favourite things to do in Atlanta when I had no money to spend ... it was enough just to look at all the great selection of things that I'd love to own. If you love sports, then going here will be like going to Disneyland. I can't explain what it's like ... two floors, each over 500 m2, packed with equipment, accessories and clothing. You name it, it's here! It's clean, tidy and there's so much stuff (although it is quite expensive). And if you're into golf, on the top floor there's a virtual simulator where you can practice your swing!
