Breitach Gorge (Breitachklamm)

2 reviews of Breitach Gorge (Breitachklamm)

A natural gorge

Great

The Breitachklamm is a natural gorge that's 2.5 kilometres long and up to 150 metres of depth that has built up over the centuries by rivers and glaciers. This place was opened in 1905 and attracts 300,000 visitors each year. In 1995 a landslide caused it to create a natural dam in the gorge and six months later, more than 300.000m2 of water were released and destroyed everything in its path. Today you can stroll along the river course, the trip takes about 2 hours. You have to pay to get in and, if I remember correctly, it was quite expensive. It really is a spectacular ride though, you can delve deeper into the mountain while enjoying a beautiful landscape.
