43 reviews of Borough Market

London's busiest food market

The Borough Market is one of London's busiest and most-well known street markets and meeting point for locally-conscious restaurateurs, local foodies, and hordes of hungry tourists. Located near the London Tower and Borough metro stops, the Borough Market is a sprawling open-air marketplace that seems to offer the best-of-the-best of national and international foodstuffs - Italian salumerias, Turkish olive bars, English cheese vendors, French gourmet providers, Spanish charcuterie stands...you name it. One of the nice things about Borough Market (for visitors at least) is that it's very tourist-friendly; the vendors are obviously used to visitors and take it in good cheer without any of the mean glares that photo-happy tourists might find in some of the more traditional continental markets.

Good for gourmets

If you are attracted to markets and cuisine in London this market will make you ecstatic. Borough Market, as Southwark Market commonly called, is the oldest food market of London. Located under a large bridge where the tracks go, the best way to get there is from London Bridge station, close by. A fascinating world, crammed with stalls and surrounded by pubs and restaurants. The stalls sell everything you can imagine: from cheese to fish, wine, typical products of different countries, meats, fruits, pastries and meats. The quality of what is sold overwhelms and is mouthwatering. The Southwark Market opens Thursday 10-17, Friday 11-18 and Saturday from 8-17.

Difficult to Decide Which Delicacy to Try

It is difficult to decide which delicacy or specialty to try when you walk down the aisles of Borough Market's so I suggest a quick decision: Head to the centre of the market where you'll find the organic juices and order a 'shot' of wheat germ. It is very small and served with a strong taste of green grass and it seems to be the magic bullet for health. Only one 'shot' is worth three days of eating pure cooked vegetables!

A cheese paradise

Excellent

The other day I was talking about the natural remedies store at Neal's Yard, and today I'm speaking about selling cheese! Here you'll find artisanal dairy products. It was like entering paradise for me, with so many varieties of English, French and Italian cheeses. The only problem is taking it home ... if the journey is long, the cheese will struggle to survive!
