6 reviews of Glasgow City Chambers

Splendid frescoes

The City Chambers are located in a grand building which was opened by Queen Victoria in 1888. The interior is gorgeous and built with stunning Italian marble. You can take free tours on a scheduled basis and I suggest you do so because you can sit on the throne of the mayor! But if you don't have much time, at least take a peek around the lobby, and don't forget to look up the splendid frescoes on the dome!

Glasgow City Council

The greatest symbol of Glasgow is this impressive building. It is situated in George Square and is one of the only good things of this industrial city. Designed by William Young in Italian Renaissance style, it was opened by Queen Victoria in 1888. With the elegant proportions of its inside decorated with marble and mosaics, the opulence of the whole building makes it the most impressive of its kind in the entire country.
