This jazz club was recommended to us as, apparently it is the most famous in the city. It can be reached by taking the S-Bahn and getting off at Savignyplatz, which is a quiet area of restaurants and cafes. It costs € 10 to enter, drinks are not included. The place is very ordinary and small, but when the lights are dim and the band plays then it has a perfect atmosphere. That night they played the "Threell Fall" and it was a pleasure to listen to. It was performed by a group of three young men who play modern jazz, mixing usual jazz instruments with more rustic sounds. Quite an experience. The club has an annual jazz program which is in high demand, so make sure to book first (info@a-trane.De). It is open every day from 21:00 to 02:00, except on Fridays and Saturdays when it is open from 21:00 until you drop.
The first time I went to the Comedy Club Kookaburra was because of a recommendation from a college friend. Needless to say it was not the last! There are student discounts and the people are very friendly. In addition, there are comedians ve are great, I think I've never laughed so much! Most stay for a while when the session ends and you can talk to them and discuss the show. Drinks can be taken during the interval and the Thursday and Saturday shows are in English, for people ve don't understand German.
