The top 39 attractions in Versailles

Palaces in Versailles
Palace of Versailles
(71)
The Palace of Versailles, or Chateau de Versailles (a castle or mansion on the outskirts of Paris), is a building that served as a royal residence during past centuries. The Palace is located in the town of Versailles, Île-de-France. Its construction was ordered by Louis XIV.

Garden at its best, care, colorful . Far from the crowd, Louis XIV and subsequent lovers didn´t have bad taste, and escaped from the court to the palace, to enjoy the beautiful sculptures and big open spaces of the garden, it is worth the visit, though I recommend renting a golf cart so you can see every single corner of this place.

Petit Trianon

This place opened in the year 2006 I did not know it existed in the Palace of Versailles, nor the story. The wife of Louis XVI grew tired of the incessant luxury and splendor of the court, so she retired to his mastery of Trianon where nobody could enter come to her uninvited. Since the year 2007 you can access this place from the Swiss House, ve held the keys of the Petit Trianon. Overcome the "disappointment" that can be caused off-season visiting Versailles, see statues and ornamental elements covered by green tarps, and fountains and vegetation causes some disappointment. I should come back in the spring or summertime to make up for it.

Hameau de la Reine (Queen's Hamlet)
(10)
Hameau de la Reine is one of the best parts of Versailles in France. This village is particularly nice because of its atmosphere, which is similar to an old farmhouses. This is where all the food was produced for the rich who lived in the Palace of Versailles. Apart from this village, another beautiful part is the palace of Marie Antoinette and the Versailles Palace itself. I recommend that you visit them.

Grand canal

Designed in the seventeenth century by André Le Notre, the Grand Canal is one of the most striking and impressive of the palace of Versailles. I love this body of water more than 1600 meters in length lined with neatly trimmed hedges, in small sailing boats (you can rent boats). The Grand Canal also offers a beautiful view of the castle. Freshness and quiet are guaranteed, ideal for a day of golf on its banks full of charm.

Apollo Fountain

The Palace of Versailles, gardens and forests, ponds ... really, one of the jewels of French art of the seventeenth century. The site is steeped in history but more than that, it still changes with every new season. The fountain of Apollo seems different with each visit.

Lycee Militaire de Saint Cyr

The Saint Cyr military school houses students preparing for the military, but it is also a historical building. The original buildings were an institution for orphaned young nobles, dating back to the time of Louis XIV. Later, they housed a special military school, which became the Imperial military school. Here, the officers of the French army were trained until the Second World War. The classical buildings and chapel coexist with the more modern buildings. There's also a Napoleon museum.
