The village of Jard-sur-Mer in Vendée, France, is on the Atlantic coast, and that's what you can enjoy while walking around. It offers several large sandy beaches, where families and some young people come to enjoy the sun and go swimming, but it also has very good areas for surfing (like Mine beach at high tide), the town seems to come to life with this summer tourism. In the small port, there are events every night: a concert one day, a night market or a street artist the next day ... Something for everyone! There are lots of campsites, with different prices and amenities, more or less away distant from water, and in the centre of town there is a small shopping area, a small cinema and a couple of restaurants. Many people like to take a bike rides to go around the whole area which is not a problem as motorists are used to it. It's a really nice place to go with family, with activities for all tastes!
The small town of Jard-sur-Mer has a fairly wide port (or for those like me that don't know anything about ports, sure think this is a big one!) The nice thing is being able to walk around the area, stopping for ice cream or dinner, renting a car or bike, letting the children play with thes giant Trampolines along the beach bordering the harbor. At night and in summer, there is always some event (concert, street theater, night market of typical products of everything for everyone!). There is no ATM on the port, so be sure to bring some cash to buy postcards or ice cream, and I hope that you enjoy your little stroll!
