Pillory or Pelourinho de Barcelos

Situated in a prime location overlooking the river Cávado, opposite the Cathedral and the Palace of the Counts of Barcelos, is the Pillory (or Pelourinho de Barcelos), one of the most emblematic of the country, and a Property of Public Interest. It's fifteenth century, Gothic, built of granite with a hexagonal stepped platform on which there's a base from which starts a 4 metes high column, topped with a cage (this is the most remarkable, due to its fine decoration carved in stone).
