1 review of La Comédie

La Comédie

Until the eighteenth century, Avignon had no theater and all of the works of art were houses in the court of the Jeu de Paume. But the court collapsed in 1732 and it was decided that they would have an actual theater. The Jeu Du Mail was bought for this purpose. The architect Thomas Lainee is responsible for the work. The facade has a glorious sculpture, reminiscent of the Sun King Louis XIV of France, who used to come to Jeu du Mail. The room has an Italian style and houses many major works.
