Mausoleum of Valea Mare

Known as the Mateias Mausoleum, this site is located near the village of Valea Mare Pravat, just off Campulung. This grand mausoleum commemorates the sacrifice of Romanian troops during the War of 1916. There is a stone tower that looks like a lighthouse, and probably does light up so that you can see it from afar. The mausoleum is built on top of a hill overlooking the meadows that surround it. There is a beautiful gazebo, from which people can see the landscape, and buy typical products of the region, which they sell in the stalls. You can climb a ladder in order to reach the tower. In late 1916, Romanian troops fought for national unity.
