You cacn have a coffee or something to eat, both on the terrace and the inside, and it is a pleasure, as well as the place it is situated: Rua Santa Catarina n º 112 4000-442 Porto, Portugal - Tel: 222 003 887 - history says that it was more than a coffee that tells the story of Porto . It had majestic coffee back in the 20s and had a clientele of prominent politicians and artists with big gatherings and debates, it was interesting and I propose a visit even if it is just for a wonderful coffee . Coffee in Portugal are taken differently, people like to savor its aroma. Happy travels to Porto, a lovely city.
We went to this place to eat after we walked around the city and the truth is that the quality of its cuisine surprised us. They gave us the recommendation of the chef for free, which was a blood sausage with carmelized apple and red bell pepper froth that was to die for! What I liked most were the sardines in a traditional conserve (made by themselves), that reminded me of the soft flavor of the ocean. Also the carpaccio of Bacalao was good, and then a little orange cake with ginger cookie over an orange gelatin. Mmmm, the price was really good. With many beers we left paying 22@ a person.
I found O Comercial when I was making a visit to the Palace of the Bolsa. It is the best-kept secret in the city. It is in the Palace and has impressive architecture. The cuisine is modern Portuguese and it has an interesting ambient. A tasting menu made up of 7 plates is 25 Euros and also has a Day menu with 3 plates and a glass of wine for 13 Euros. The perfect ending to our visit to Porto!
It is a bar frequented by young people, university students and tourists. They say that the revolution started here. THe food is delicious and at a good price. Also it is a place to go for some beers. It has a terrace that is closed where you can eat. They let us stay there with our dogs. The waiters are very attentive.
The Brisa Restaurant is in one of the most important streets of Oporto, and they have parking at the back, ie in Rua Roberto Ivens. This is a fairly large restaurant, and is often difficult to fill, we did not need to book directly and it was half empty. A good choice for lunch or dinner in Porto.
We came here because it had a free table on the balcony with a perfect view. The waiter was witty and charming. We ordered delicious clams and sardines, waiter. We ordered clams - they were delicious as usual, and sardines, accompanied by salad, peppers, and potatoes, with a bottle of green wine. We jokingly passed on dessert, saying we'd prefer another dish of clams, and they quickly brought us another, saying it was on the house! Total bill € 26
Postigo do Carvao has taken the name of the only door that remains in the Fernandina wall, surrounding the city. From here to the loading docks of the Ribeira, runs the Rua da Fonte, which is the street where the restaurant is located. When we went in there we found it quiet, with the dining room almost empty. But the staff were friendly and welcoming, smiling as they offered us a table. We followed their suggestions for pork sausages, and a beautifully rosy ribeye of beef accompanied by vegetables and potatoes. Total for three courses and drinks: € 35.70. Given that the price includes a VAT of 23%, it really is very good.
The Abbey do Porto is a spacious restaurant in the heart of Oporto and is next to Paseo de Santa Catarina, which is a Shopping Centre that is opened in the city. Its food is based on traditional Portuguese cuisine and their specialties are: Cod of Gomes Sá, cod of lagareiro, dust grelhado, guts of Abbey ( Porto-style), steak steak and roast goat. Upon entering the restaurant we were surprised by the image of a monk. It has several large rooms in the basement and ground floor and the value is very good. I recommend it to anyone visiting Porto.
Going to one of these restaurants on the banks of the Duero is a must if you go to Porto, you must also try cod, mussels, octopus, and rice. This is one of several that along the way, and I suggest going in the afternoon to book a table by the window to see the sunset on the magnificent Don Luis bridge. The huge amount of tasty food is enough to return to this typical Portuguese place.
This restaurant has a lovely, but tiny terrace and it's quite pleasant. The staff is friendly and they know how to treat their guests right. Extensive menu, with a sizable and unique wine list. Generous portions, good cod. But the price is high for it being in Portugal (25 euros per person). Something I couldn't look past was that no credit cards are accepted, only cash. Unforgivable!
How were we not going to go to dinner in the most lively tours of Porto, against Luis I bridge, in the spectacular neighborhood of Ribeira!. The hardest thing was to know which restaurant to go to, because in the spring there is many of these and all are quite similar. I chose this place because on the 1st floor there was an empty table. The upstairs dining room, in a medieval building, is small and intimate, perfect for a romantic dinner, with a few tables and great views of the Douro and the bridge. On the menu: rice and a tasty seafood broth, a house specialty, and cod, one of the endless recipes and shaped croquettes. The chilled white wine was good, and the price cheap enough to be a tourist place, less than 15 euros per person. By the way, its name is Bebovos. Do not fail to see the two photos taken from the door of the restaurant, the illuminated bridge over the waters of the Douro is a show.
First because of its location/environment and second for its cuisine. Its location has nothing to do with old Porto as it's situated in the most level area of the city, from the ribiera you can go by tram, get off at the last stop and from there it's a pleasant 10 minute stroll, or catch the bus 500, at the door and it leaves you very close to San Bento. It's traditional Japanese cuisine, that's rich with ample portions and its location and architecture are most dramatic.
This restaurant, near the port area of Porto, offers Portuguese cuisine. It's easily reached, down the stairs from the square where the cathedral stands. It's always crowded, due to its great location and good food. In our case, we found it after an afternoon walk through the old city, and we were happy to enjoy Portuguese dishes accompanied by the warm and friendly service from the owner. I can wholeheartedly recommend the baked cod and halibut. Among the desserts, highlights include orange and almond cake. We had some good port wine to finish, and the owner chatted with us about some hidden spots in the city that are worth visiting. In short, highly recommended for several reasons: good value, good service and excellent location.
In March of the year 2007 I went with my mother to Porto. We were wandering around the area of the university and the church that has that fantastic ceramic mural. In between all those noisy bars we found found the rests restaurant the "garden of Irene". We looked at the prices and found them to be quite good so we decided to go. We were three people in total and we ate steak with mashed chestnuts with wine and dessert for 17 euros per head, which could have cost in Madrid 3-4 times more. The service was five-star quality, I highly recommend it.
In the Boavista area, this restaurant at the Sheraton hotel, offers fine, modern cuisine for lunch and dinner. Dinners are a la carte, and there's a tasting menu depending on the time of year. The prices are quite high for Porto, although Portugal is cheaper than many other European countries. You can certainly have a cheaper meal elsewhere in the city, but I don't think you can have a better one.
If you visit Porto and you're staying in the hotel zone of Avenida Boavista, this great restaurant is perfect for that casual dinner at the end of a busy day's sightseeing. The decor is very modern, with lots of mirrors on the walls. The service is fast and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. Credit cards are accepted.
Mamma Nostra is located in the Infante Dom Henrique street, a little after the Plaza da Ribeira da Palácio de la Bolsa. It seems incredible that in a place so lavishly decorated, it can serve pizza baked with firewood, as the furnace is in view of diners. Elegantly upholstered chairs, linens, cotton, gold ceilings with plaster moldings, and an ice bucket for a humble bottle of Boca de Sapo. All this to decorate one of the world's most popular and simple dishes: pizza.
