Cafés in East Lyme
Flander's Donut and Bagel Bake Shop
Flander’s Donut and Bagel Bake Shop, located near the East Lyme High School, opened in 1972 - I am sure to everyone’s delight. Flander’s Bake Shop opens very early (4 am) in the morning to sell their delicious homemade donuts, bagels, pastries, and coffee. The shop offers very little seating space and typically you purchase your goodies to go. Flander’s Donut and Bagel Bake Shop only takes cash, but their baked goods and coffee are very reasonably priced. Every time I am in the area I make sure to pick up my favorite - a crumb donut and coffee to go!

The Shack
The Shack Restaurant is a breakfast staple at Flanders Four Corners in East Lyme. The Shack has hearty breakfasts and lunches with huge portion sizes. My favorite are the delicious grilled blueberry muffins or the huge stack of pancakes. They also serve savory breakfasts including omelets and the elaborate home fries that incorporate everything into a home fry. The line at the shack can get long during prime times, so be sure to arrive early for a table. Over the past few years The Shack has opened several other locations throughout southeastern Connecticut (e.g., Waterford and New London) and each location is surprisingly as good as the original.

The Stand
This is a perfect stop for a quick lunch or snack if you are at the beach in Niantic, Connecticut. The Stand has great pink lemonade, seafood, and quick meals, like hot dogs and onion rings, that you can enjoy at the beach or in their outdoor, shaded deck seating area. It is common to just walk from the beach in your swimsuit or cover-up and order your meal at the window. Just pick up your meal when your number is called. Be sure to clean up after yourself so the next customers will have a clean place to sit. Note that parking is not available, so the Crescent Beach Food Stand is best walked to.
