Lluís Domènech I Montaner House-Museum
(5)
When you visit this house-museum, you always discover something special. An artist once lived here and you can see the manner of his work. In this case also, the artist is none other than Lluís Domènech i Montaner, genius of Catalan Modernism. His house is full of models, sketches and photos of his work. His architect workbench is also preserved. The atmosphere is charming ... very inspiring.

The Mercy Walk
(4)
This shaped Parkway Boulevard was opened in the early twentieth century to join the Sanctuary of Mercy to the historic center of Canet de Mar. Several small notable buildings can be found from the beginning of the walk, which eventually leads to the top of a small hill, the Sanctuary. Some of these buildings are modernists such as Can Carbonell, a typical summer estate from the late nineteenth century, and other eclectic styles common in homes of Indians. It is very pleasant, with a very nineteenth century feel with barely any presence of modern buildings. Right at the beginning of the path is a fountain designed by Joseph Puig.

Roura House

La Casa Roura, also known as the Bianga Ca, is a modernist building designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, located in the center of Canet de Mar. It is probably the most striking work of this style located in this place. Its construction dates back to 1892 and is characterized by its brick exterior, but wrought iron and pottery are also widely used. The most spectacular part of the property is its tower, with its whimsical designs and a cornice of projecting gargoyles. It currently houses a restaurant of the same name. The restaurant is worth a visit not for the food but the incredible interior, even more stylised than the exterior.

Ateneo Canetense
The small town of Canet de Mar, on the northern boundary of the province of Barcelona, has many treasured and distinguished architectural works of modernism, executed by architects such as Puig i Cadafalch and Domenech i Montaner. To the latter, it owes the Athenaeum, which was one of the first commissions he received. The building has characteristics typical of early modernism, highlighted by the large rose window adorning its facade and the column holding the ledge on the corner, topped by a small dome. Also notable are the graffiti on the facade stucco and wrought-iron railings, a hallmark of Catalan Modernism. Its current function is that of a public library.
Beaches in Canet de Mar
Canet beach
(3)
Canet Beach is one of two urban beaches in this town, north of the province of Barcelona. It's the largest and most central, as it is located opposite the historical centre of the town. It's a long stretch of golden sand, about two miles long, bordered by the promenade. The occupancy rate is high in the summer season and the local train station is opposite, allowing easy access from Barcelona. The rest of the season is much quieter. It has the blue flag category, so it has multiple services including showers, toilets and rescue service. There are several wooden walkways allowing access by disabled people. In summer, parking near the beach is extremely difficult.
City Halls in Canet de Mar
Town Hall
(1)
The City Hall of the coastal town of Canet de Mar is a construction in the early twentieth century academic style, but incorporates historical elements such as battlements. Its top displays details of the modernist aesthetic that makes its mark on this small town. Its appearance, generally, is of classic simplicity.

Sanctuary of Mercy
(3)
This great temple of devotion to Mary stands at the top of Canet de Mar, overlooking the town. This great building was constructed in the mid-nineteenth century style, dwarfing the population, particularly when it was just a small fishing village. It is one of the first churches of the Gothic style built in Catalonia. It has a single nave, in the style of medieval churches, and although its external appearance is sober, the richness of the Gothic ornamental style is visible in its facade. The interior is a reconstruction since it was burned down during the Civil War, as is the image of the venerated Virgin.

Jover Factory
(1)
Canet de Mar is a small coastal town on the northern edge of the province of Barcelona. It has managed to resist the tourist boom of the last decade by maintaining its fishing village identity and preserving an important architectural legacy. Proof of this is the factory of the early twentieth century, attributed to Pere Domènech Roura, but it is possible that it is the work of his father, the famous architect Domenech i Montaner. The building combines stucco with brick and has a splendid modernist influence. The facade features a ceramic rosette ceramic.

Roig Alsina House
Like many other towns in Catalonia, Canet de Mar benefited from the Indians, the Spanish enriched by colonisation especially after the loss of Cuba when they returned to their villages of origin and left visible testimony of their exuberant wealth in architectural heritage. This is an Indian house, built in the first decade of the twentieth century and, unlike most found in Canet, it is not in modernist style, but the art-deco style. Its typically white walls stand in stark contrast against the deep red of the roof. The architectural elements are simpler and in the modern style and avoid naturalism. A nice building and very well preserved.

St. Peter and St. Paul Parish Church
(3)
The parish church of Canet de Mar is in the late Gothic style (in fact, it was built during the Renaissance) but it was added to architecturally in the neo-Gothic and Baroque styles. It has a single nave, somewhat elevated, with a Latin cross. It suffered damages during the Civil War and was rebuilt in the years immediately following. What caught my eye were the sgraffito geometric patterns of the facade. All in all, a pretty, little, graceful church and gains value if viewed from a historical or artistic perspective.
