Lakes in Covadonga
The Lakes of Covadonga - Enol and Ercina lakes
(219)
One of the most impressive sites in Spain is, without a doubt, the Lakes of Covadonga. Located in the heart of the Picos de Europa, they are a must stop for nature lovers. After going up a narrow road from the Sanctuary and Basilica of Covadonga, the traveler finds lake Enol, the biggest of the two. It is more than 1,000 meters above sea level and very close to the coast. For sure it is a must see.

You want some advice? Choose well the time of year you want to go there. Depending on the time of year there will be more or less people. I chose the 2nd week of July and it was a perfect choice. For me, it is an absolute must visit. To go by car until Covadonga, to park and to find this extremely beautiful temple in the middle of a natural park is priceless. You have to see it for yourself. The pictures and videos can only give you an idea. We continued the visit going up to the lakes; I recommend that you do the same. Depending on the time of year you can do it by bus or car. In august there are so many people that you have to go up by bus.

I love going for strolls on the San Lorenzo boardwalk, in the coastal tourist town of Asturias. I like to admire its magnificent scenery at sunset, and the beach offers volleyball, and soccer is played at ladder 4 (known as The Escalerona) and when the tide allows. There are other water sports like surfing, sea kayaking or windsurfing. A treat for your eyes and your camera.

It is a calm fishing town in Asturias with beautiful landscapes, good restaurants and tradition. It is quite known, so it is better to go in low season.
Historical Monuments in Cangas de Onís
Roman Bridge
(95)
Cangas de Onis is one of the most popular resorts in Eastern Asturias because of its location, which is the required step for anyone who wants to climb to the Lagos de Covadonga. Although it is known as Puente Romano, the bridge that is visible today is actually the medieval bridge that was built above it. It would be possible to say that today, it is a gateway to the Picos de Europa.

El Silencio Beach

I recently discovered his beach and since then I always go there when I visit Asturias. It is not well known and that is part of the magic. To enter the beach you have to park your car on the road and go down the hill and then some stairs. The beach is surrounded by rocks, it is wild and impressive. When you sit there (preferably at sunset) it feels as if time has stopped and it is just you and the sea. Personally, I’m in a stressful period in my life and when I go there I feel completely relaxed. It is a magical place and I recommend it to all of you.

It is one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the coast of Asturias, from where you can see the mountain and the sea at the same time. On clear days you will be able to see the Picos de Europa. It is located on the road that goes from Arriondas to Colunga. You can’t miss it.

Historical Monuments in Gijón
Universidad Laboral de Gijón
(66)
The Universidad Laboral de Gijón was constructed between the years 1946 and 1956, and with its 270 000 m² it is the largest biggest in Spain, and it was the most significant architectural works of the 20th century in Asturias and its construction was the result of a mining accident in the Flow Basin, which was meant to create an orphanage that could hold up to 1000 students. The project became bigger and the last time it was the biggest secondary Institute in the country, with 3,000 students. The establishment is made up of a tower of 130 meters inspired by the Giralda in Seville, a theater of dimensions similar to those of the Parthenon, which still has a shield of Franco, a church, the world's biggest of its kind and a central courtyard similar to that of the Piazza San Marco in Venice, and Gateway topped with a tower and Atrium, These incredible dimensions are built but with little harmony.

Cerro de Santa Catalina Park

This is one of my favourite places in Gijón to wander and be at peace; reading, walking or just gazing at the sea. The summit is in the Cimadevilla neighbourhood, a fishing district of Gijón, and was 'remodelled' a few years ago to the delight of passers-by and gijoneses. It is a garden on the cliffs surrounding the Bay of Biscay. From the top of the park you can see the entire city, especially the San Lorenzo Bay and San Pedro church. It was a Roman settlement where people avoided sieges from the coast, thanks to the privileged view over the sea and the city. Today the city is contemplating the "Eulogy to the Horizon" by Chillida, welcoming all those arriving to Gijon by sea.

Kudu is one of the most peculiar places in Asturias, almost like a dream. At first glance it appears that the houses are hanging down over the slope of the hillside. Reaching the port is easy, you just follow the narrow streets straight there. I got there first by crossing the road and was impressed by the views. The port is the place to be in the summer for socialising. It has three floating docks and there are many restaurants and bars. It is quite a touristy place.

Los bufones de Pría

The coast of Llanes is characterized by the presence of carbonated rocks which, due to the karstic process of erosion and the dissolution by seawater, they form subterranean cavities and caves over the cliffs that are filled with air. Sometimes, these cavities communicate with the surface forming vertical chimneys, from where the pressurized air is expelled producing a spectacular stream of water like a geyser (called “bufón”), accompanied by a particular sound that sounds like bellowing. They are considered Natural Monument, because of their uniqueness, by the Protection of Natural Monuments Network in Spain. In the coast of Llanes there are various fields with “bufones” (blowholes), like the Arenillas, Santiuste and Llames. I visited the one in Llames. To get there you have to go to the village of Llames and from there take the paved road that leads you to Guadamía beach. Once you are there, take the path on the right that takes you to the Bramadorio de Llames. The best thing is to choose a day when the sea is rough, preferably with high tide. It is quite a spectacle, and the sound is deafening.

This is one of the prettiest towns I've ever seen. I was impressed from the first glance. It's a truly lovely white town that's both joyful and colourful, since the colourful boats give it a wonderful touch. With an impressive promenade, beaches that leave no breathing, a cemetery with an amazing view from anywhere in the city. On my Asturias trip, if I had to pick something to stand out, it would be this town because I loved it. I can't find anything bad to say about it. I would return there every day of my life.

Its a fantastic place, even though I came in the rain, I love this little town divided into 2 ... Then in the middle of the harbor there is a bridge separating 2 boardwalks, I like them about the same ... I Would love to return in summer, and as Melendi said, go down with a canoe ...
Churches in Oviedo
Santa María de Naranco
(72)
A few meters from Oviedo on Monument road, and just a few metres from another unforgettable monument like Santa Maria del Naranco is San Miguel del Lillo, built in Asturian pre-Romanesque style. The surroundings of the church make it seem truly grand. Documents (like those in the CHRONICLE ALBELDENSE) mention that in the year 881 there was a landslide, that affected two-thirds of the construction; if you visit it you can see on the floor markings where it came to. You can only visit the church interior with a guide. It's totally prohibited to take photos, with or without flash. I am a lover of the Romanesque and pre-Romanesque style, this church fascinated me. Not just the building, but its truly magnificent environment. It is one of the places you mustn't miss if you visit Asturias.
