1 review of Aziziye Camii

Used to be a theatre

Located across the street from Stoke Newington, in Hackney, Aziziye mosque is one of the oldest Turkish mosques in London. It's not that old, it was converted in the 80s, but previously there weren't any mosques in the city. It attracts Turkish communities from the surrounding neighborhoods. Interestingly this building was once the theater of the borough of Hackney, which ironically had the name "Mora Alhambra" and it already had an oriental style recalling the Moorish buildings of Andalusia. It was known throughout the entire area of Shoreditch. It now has a section for men, one for women and a restaurant, which people come from afar to eat, at the bottom there's also a halal butcher.
