Fun for the whole family

On my last morning in London I wanted to see the Faraday Museum, and when I got there I found myself in the basement of the Royal Institute. Of course I visited the museum, which features a reproduction of his laboratory, but the biggest surprise was the building itself. The Royal Institute was founded in 1799, dedicated to research, education and science. The Christmas lectures, held since 1825 (apart from during the war years of 1939 - 1942), have featured some real experts in their fields: Michael Faraday, John Tyndall, James Dewar, David Attenborough, Carl Sagan, Richard Dawkins. These lectures have become famous since being broadcast on British TV for the first time in 1966, and they present scientific audience to a wider audience, including children, in an entertaining way.
