In its day, one of the most interesting places to visit in this town of northern Portugal was the ferry across the river Miño to the Galician village of Goian. Today, with the construction of a large bridge that connects the town of Vilanova de Cerveira and this Galician town, the ferry actually no longer exists, but it has become a beautiful cafe on the banks of the river in a beautiful natural setting. The interior of the ferry is a cozy and modern cafe with chairs and tables of many bright colors and offering views of the Miño river and a large outdoor terrace with parasols where you can enjoy a drink or a beer during the hot summer months. You must not miss the market which takes place every Saturday. It is considered to be one of the best markets in northern Portugal and there is lots of choice. There you can find pretty much everything you could imagine.
As you may well know I do not like doing negative ratings. But because I made a good assessment of the Turismo do Minho hotel, and because this restaurant is attached to it, I assumed that it was the best option for dinner, I want to warn you of what you are going to find. The restaurant is not expensive, but compared to other Portuguese restaurants it is not cheap. The service is slow, very slow both times I went. The second time I wanted to eat a special dish and the waiter recommended me not to take it because it was with a charcoal fire with too much smoke, I agreed to take something more expensive on his recommendation, and 15 mins later a table bigger than mine had that blissful dish steaming in their faces. My girlfriend gave me hell for this.
