Parish Church of Mateus

After visiting the Solar de Mateus I headed to the center of the town of Vila Real, and near the roundabout which leads to the capital of Tras-Os-Montes, I found this church, which has the municipal parish cemetery of Mateus. The facade is in the Baroque style and has an unfinished look, as it only has a bell tower (with a clock), which is right next to the main entrance. I was not able to visit the inside as it was locked, but next to the entrance was a plaque commemorating the baptism, in 1859, of Bishop Jerome Amaral Teixeira de Figueredo, of whom there is a statue in front of the church.
