The area which extends from the city to the Basilica of Santa Maria is a lovely walk through the environment accompanied by ancient buildings and pedestrian areas with terraces which invite you to relax and recuperate.
All you have to do is lift your head slightly and you'll find some beautiful buildings. They are all are well-maintained and while they don't have huge architectural frills, they are still very nice to see.
The Ayuntamiento de Elche is the oldest town hall in the south of the Valencian Community. It was built between the 15th and 18th centuries and honestly has quite a sober style. In one corner there is a very old mechanical clock that strikes the hours.
This is located in the Plaza del Portal which occupies the old Municipal Hospital building, erected in 1790 with the purpose of caring and sheltering the sick and needy, it houses a stone cross in the center. it became the City Hall in 1981 after a complete restoration of the large stone house. The name refers to the place that was to become a door that led to the walled enclosure from the outside population.
