Islands in Key West
Key West
(34)
This town has friendly people but they charge for everything, even a glass of water. There are many souvenir shops and many places to go diving, parachuting above the city, or boating. Well, a warning: don't take the tour bus that takes you to the island, they will charge you at least $ 12 more. Instead, take the tour from the town. You won't have any problems.

Islands in New York
Ellis Island
(20)
This island was used to quarantine immigrants who came to the US. It is close to the Statue of Liberty. I found it to be interesting because it is such a popular film reference and important part of U.S. history. There are shocking photos, fun facts, historical objects, and curious places, but I think the historic charm of this place has failed. I was struck that they placed an escalator in the building. I think it could be better tended to, but it is a must in this city, especially considering its proximity to the Statue of Liberty.

Antelope Island State Park
(4)
Antelope Island is a beautiful island in the middle of the Great Salt Lake in Utah. It´s a natural park where you can find antelopes, sheep and bison. The community of bison was introduced in the 1980s to increase their numbers as they were an endangered species. The island has many hikes, some of which are a bit challenging since the island´s maximum height is nearly two kilometers.
Islands in Waimea
Waimea Canyon
Hiking through this canyon is an incredible experience, with stunning panoramic vistas on all sides. Twice during our hike we had rainbows appear below us in the canyon.

Islands in San Francisco
Alcatraz Island
(2)
Located in the bay of San Francisco, this could be the most famous prison in the world, with the possible exception of the Bastille in France. Today it has become one of the most visited tourist spots in the US, and is a must if you visit San Francisco.

Islands in New York
Staten Island
(2)
When you go to New York, everything seems so big...buildings, museums, meals, parks, and especially the famous panoramic views. There may be different options about where to go to get the best views, but nobody can deny that the Staten Island ferry is one of the most enjoyable things to do in the city. You'll go past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and what's more, its entirely free! If you go during working hours, then there are few people, as most of the travelers are commuters going from Staten Island to Manhattan for work. The ferry leaves every 30 minutes from the Whitehall Terminal.
Islands in San Diego
Coronado Island
(3)
Coronado Island is located in the bay of San Diego and can be reached from the city center by bus across the access bridge or by taking the ferry that leaves from the marina. Coronado Island is popular with locals especially on weekends, as there are many beaches where you can relax and exercise. The famous Silver Strand State Beach and the Coronado Central Beach (with a space reserved for dogs) are two of the most popular. A pleasant bike path goes all around the island. I recommend that you rent a bike and travel around the pretty village and beautiful beaches. You can really appreciate the skyline here, and there are numerous places to eat, including many by the sea offering barbecues!
Islands in Newport Beach
Balboa Island
(2)
Balboa Island is a little "American Saint Tropez". Indeed, the resemblance is striking, with small houses along the water and boats docked on small private jetties. There are also streets with shops, and small beaches where children play while adults go stand up paddling (a sport that involves standing on a surfboard and paddling it to move). The houses were all very ornate and decorated during my visit to Newport Beach as the U.S. national holiday of Independence Day would take place a few days after! I can tell you that we saw a lot of American flags and "god bless america" signs ;) But even at another time of year, Balboa Island is a great place to discover.

We loved it. Wish we had a little more time to spend here.

Islands in San Francisco
Treasure Island
(1)
Looking from Treasure Island, the San Francisco cityscape is a marvelous sight. The lights are bright as it reflects over the bay. The Bay Bridge is seen on the left as it connects the East Bay to San Francisco. The bridge is also well lit and currently putting on a light show. This brings everything to perspective as you can see the entire city just from one spot.
Islands in Tampa
Harbour Island
Located just south of Tampa and connected to the Downtown area by two major bridges, Harbour Island is very well known. It is indeed a highly residential area with beautiful Tampa homes and many luxury hotels with infinity pools and all the works. It's quite enchanting with the Hilsborough River and the lush vegetation that covers the island.
Islands in Seward
Chiswell Islands
Many of the tourist cruises that leave from Seward pass through the channels between these islets. You can see wildlife including several colonies of sea lions and lots of puffins (those funny birds!).

A view of downtown Detroit from the shores of the Detroit River, on an island called Belle Isle.

Hawaii -- where a fantasia of fluted ridges and dramatic black lava rock compete for attention with botanical masterpieces erupting in riots of color. Then there is the water...sigh...
Islands in Boston
Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area
There are 34 islands in Boston Harbor. They can be reached by ferry services from Long Wharf, Pemberton Point, and Fore River Shipyard. Each island has its own unique charm, so you must find your own particular favorite. The most famous is Georges Island, visited for Fort Warren and its military history.
Islands in New York
City Island Museum
(1)
If it's your first time in New York, I do not recommend this visit. But if you are an experienced tourist, the trip to City Island has it appeal. If you like to stray away from the typical routes, then this is perfect for you. I had never heard of City Island before. Later, I learned that it is a very popular town, named for a famous film in America. It is also used for the filming of many television series, including The Sopranos. Basically, it is a typical coastal seaside resort. What seems unusual is it isn't at all, you're in New York. It reminded me of the atmosphere that people should experience in Tiburon in the off season ... Understand that it is a little bit of a trek: you have to take the subway to the last stop of the Bronx and then a bus (the 29), which takes you to the island in just a few minutes. The ride is part of the charm, because you have a good aerial view of the colorful multicultural district. Something like the underground tour. We were there on a gray day, but still enjoyed its tranquility and relaxed atmosphere. It was a recommended remedy to the city. And if you need one last thing to persuade you to include City Island in your list of trips, let me tell you about the paradise lobster. We tasted a huge plate for only $17 at a decadent restaurant with charming service at the Crab Shanty. It was a surprising and unique day.
