Adjacent to the Odeon cinema, just steps from the ramparts of the medieval town of Canterbury, Chill is one of two nightclubs in the city, not to be missed if you want to spend the evening dancing. Ideally located (near the bus and a taxi rank), the excellent DJs play new international music. It attracts a young crowd, and the drinks are reasonably priced. A great place to party.
I am a fan of Jamaican music and I was lucky to see live the great Al Campbell - a legend of rocksteady. This pub is in Brixton which is an area with many Jamaican immigrants or descendants, you feel a special energy here and to be part of that is great! That night there was a DJ before the show to get us all "in the mood". The good thing about this pub is its late closing (4-5 am) but if you are staying in London zone 1, it's complicated by the times of the night bus.
One of the most famous clubs in Dundee for Mardi-Gras, is Déjà Vu (don't ask me where the passion for clubs with French names in Scotland came from) or London (classier). Fat Sam's is really nice with a beautiful area for dancing and a lot of space; plus two bars and two bathrooms. Anyway, I generally have a passion for English clubs that aren't packed. It's never crowded, the people are friendly, it is fun and the bouncers are not boring. Since the Victorian era, "bars" close early and the clubs are the exception to the rule. At 2:30 to 3:00, everything is closed. You must plan to go early. Indeed, as the clubs and pubs close early, the Scots tend to drink quickly and start at 18:00 with the result of being very tipsy around 3:00 am.
Price: From £ 5 for a normal evening, £ 16 at parties with guests (Calvin Harris, Enter Shikari ...)
Note: At this time, during the recession they are trying to fight the crisis with discounts.
A great night out. Built in 1897 as a music hall The Middlesbrough Empire has played host to a variety of performers from Charlie Chaplin to Paul Oakenfold to the Scissor Sisters! Since he bought the venue 1991 Barry Faulkner has transformed the derelict building into one of the countries finest venues/nightclubs. The Empire now retains all it's former glory with 3 floors dedicated to style and music.
Whose played? Since we opened in 1991 most of the worlds finest djs and producers have performed and indeed still do, djs like Paul Oakenfold, Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez, Erick Morillo, Tiesto, Paul van Dyke to name but a few. MTV, clubavision etc have all filmed at the club and several music videos have shot here too. Bands like The Darkness, Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, Kasabian, Scissor Sisters, BRMC, Fun Lovin Criminals, Goldie Lookin Chain, Bloc Party, Dead 60s, Pil, Imelda May, Big Country, Ian Brown, to name but a few, have all performed here in the past few years.
The Empire is located in the town centre right next to the town hall, Train and bus stations are both 2 minutes away.
