It is one of the biggest shipyards in Europe and one of the few that preserves all the tradition of its beginning. It is situated in a strategic zone of the mouth of the Loire Estuary. This center in the French Atlantic offers incredible views of the 'giants of the ocean'. Some gigantic ships can be seen in reform or construction that rise above the cold waters of the sea as skeletons. STX Europe is the name of this French yard that is so unique. Many classify it as a real steel factory on the water that grows and grows over the years, creating works of art. With the motion of the boat, you can visit the International Cruisers and broadsword, the only submarine open to the public. They are artists of this type of trade.
It is a small town on the French Atlantic coast where the first French shipbuilding center and the second aircraft construction site are located (where they make parts for Airbus aircraft). However, the industrial side of Saint Nazaire today is not just anecdotal. It is an immense mass of concrete, as big as a football stadium that still endures, it was sheltered during World War Two from the deadliest weapons of Adolf Hitler: the fleets of U-boats. The huge mass of concrete today has become an interesting museum and cultural center. However, the French city where the Loire meets the Atlantic today is also known as "the city of the 20 beaches", which are both large sandy as secluded coves, sheltered by pines and oaks, or beaches offering the wildest winds.
Passing through France on the way to Spain we decided to stop at the coastal village of Saint-Nazaire. Passing by the sea, we realize the existence of a long, high and thick wall, made of cement that broke with the aesthetic in the area ... Hitler, during the Second World War, wanted to wall off specific areas more vulnerable to attacks by the Allies in coastal locations such as Saint-Nazaire. Not that it is something nice and picturesque, but it immediately caught our attention for its colossal dimensions and sobriety. Fortunately, its construction no avail and Europe could achieve peace ... Possibly thanks to places like this, we never forget that sometimes the worst human being is the beast of the earth ... Or at least I hope that this will make us never forget.
From Moutiers-en-Retz Croisic, continuing up until Britain, the Path of the Customs is one of the major routes along the Pays de la Loire coast.
